Pixon Software is a suite of flexible interactive tools that implement the Pixon Method either as a general image-processing application on a stand-alone workstation or as a specialized solution to be embedded within specific imaging or video systems.
In stand-alone format, the software is written and compiled in Research Systems Inc.'s Interactive Data Language (IDL), now in version 6.0. IDL is a cross-platform development environment especially suited to scientific visualization and image processing. This implementation allows users to develop their own custom applications tailored to their specific data structures and image-enhancement needs. Such development may be undertaken independently-or in collaboration with Pixon scientists-and offers full flexibility for imaging R&D or prototype development. Pixon itself uses this version of the software for research and product development.
Alternatively, an application-specific software implementation of the Pixon Method may be embedded in dedicated imaging systems as a standard package or as an option. Pixon is currently developing such packages for use in medical-imaging systems and electron-microscope workstations.
Attributes:

- Cleanly extracts the theoretical maximum amount of information resident in image data sets
- Sharpens images beyond traditional instrumental limitations
- Eliminates random measurement noise
- Robustly rejects false image features
- Accepts input in from one- to eight-dimensional working spaces
- Handles RGB color, multispectral, hyperspectral, multiframe, and time-series data
- Runs stand alone on Windows, Macintosh, and Unix platforms.
