Hard X-ray (23-33 keV) images of the 20 August 1992 solar flare. The observations are from the hard X-ray Telescope (HXT) on board the Yohkoh satellite. Each column shows a time series of three image reconstructions. The background patterns which show up in the direct inversion and the MEM inversion are artifacts resulting from the sparse UV-plane coverage in the HXT instrument. The Pixon reconstruction essentially elliminates all of these artifacts. The reconstructions were performed by Tom Metcalf of the University of Hawaii (now at Lockheed Martin). Figure reproduced from Puetter (1995, Int. J. of Im. Sys. & Tech., 6, 314).
